Well, let me get this set straight right off the bat – I have nothing against Sweatpants!
I mean they are comfortable, cheap, and come is all types of colors. If you come over to my place on a cold winter night you might even find me wearing some!
Here’s my beef with sweatpants. They are just so sterotypical. It’s like the default outfit for a fat person. If there is even a thought process, I imagine it goes something like this… “Crap, I need to go out! – Well, if I’m going to make the effort to leave the house, I should at least be comfortable – It doesn’t matter what I look like” But this is a mistake! (one that even I am guilty of) It just feeds the whole “fat people are slobs” mentality.
Here is a great quote from a Yahoo answers board recently…
Question: Jogging in Sweatpants?
Is it alright for me to go jogging in sweat pants and a tee shirt over the
summer, or would that be bad for my health. I don’t want to embarrass
my self wearing the wrong gear.
To be clear, I’m not saying that fat people should boycott sweatpants, but instead we should be aware that there are numerous stereotypes out there. I have just picked this one to name the blog after because I think it’s so prevalent in our world today!
